Before / After Bonsai Progression Showcase

A quick series of before and after shots of several trees in training, not yet full bonsai, but on its way to be bonsai.
All are still works in progress, some still have 1~3 years ahead and others a good 10 years.

  1. Small but nice and with a feeling.
I am going to dig my rosemary now, and that is all your fault...But mine is huge...
    Need to try pine eventually.

  2. Be careful with digging out the rosemary.
Its very picky on the roots.
Don't remove more than 1/3 of the roots at any given intervention.
If you're going to dig it out, then make sure that you are digging it out with ALL its feeder roots or more that 2/3 of its feeder roots.
I've killed my share of "yamadori" rosemary, collected from my own garden, because I was unable to remove them with enough feeder roots.

If you have one already in a pot its going to be a lot easier.
